"Jews of Greece" Documentary / International Holocaust Remembrance Day
7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

On this special edition of “Modern Odyssey”, host Dr. Despina Afentouli interviews Lawrence Russo, the director of “Trezoros: The Lost Jews of Kastoria”, about some of the oldest Jewish communities in history, the Jews of Greece. During the Nazi Occupation and the Holocaust, Greek Orthodox leaders and Greek people risked their lives and stood up to Nazi oppression to help save the fate of Jews across Greece. In recognition of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, this discussion of survival and how people support each other, irrespective of religious or ethnic backgrounds, covers topics and themes that should never be forgotten.

Dr. Despina Afentouli is the host, producer and journalist of the “Modern Odyssey” award-winning series on BronxNet TV. Modern Odyssey features interviews with leaders, artists, and prime movers on issues that aim to inspire. Dr. Despina Afentouli is a journalist, sociologist and currently a postdoc researcher with professional work experience in media, academic institutions and the public sector. Dr. Afentouli is the author of the monograph “The position of the British Press in Greek-Turkish Relations, 1955-1965” and member of the International Federation of Journalists and the National Writers Union-representing at the US Women’s Caucus at the UN.
